The White Horse, Richmond
FancyaPint?'s review...
Newly spruced up, the White horse is Fuller's take on the contemporary pub/dining experience that's so fashionable nowadays. It presents little in the way of surprises, if you're familiar with the genre or Fuller's pubs. There's Pride on the hand pumps, plus Butcombe Bitter along with a few other interesting bottled beers, including a few Belgians. The food's pretty decent - modern British pub grub - not cheap, but not too pricey either and it must be said that it's the food that's the raison d'être of this place. It's not an issue just having a drink, but if you really want to fit in, you ought to be dining. The White Horse is a nice enough place though, pleasantly decorated and nicely organised to cater for a drinking and dining clientele and there's also a nice beer garden out the back. Indeed, it's all very nice, but somehow the White Horse doesn't feel particularly atmospheric. It's a safe bet if you're out for a spot of food, but if you're looking for a lively pub experience, you'll probably need to look elsewhere.

This pub does a good-humoured quiz on a Monday evening that has the added bonus of being free to enter. The prize is a free meal for the team, which we won a few weeks back (autumn '10). Food was excellent (and, as stated, clearly the focus), and the atmosphere for the quiz is normally really good (so jovial, in fact, that we even witnessed some strangers band together to form a team). Not sure how it stacks up for a pint on a random evening otherwise, but we thought it was an excellent place.

I recently moved to Richmond and have been trying the multitude of pubs in the region. This one is by far the BEST. It not only looks amazing, they also have a good selection of bottled and tap beer and ale. I haven't tasted the food yet, but by look of the food on the number of tables during evenings, it seems be well liked too. Has a nice beer garden for beautiful summers that we are enjoying now. The nice big green canopy there also help during rains. Very friendly staff and a delight to be around. Overall I would say its a 9/10.
