Somewhat belying the surrounding tower blocks, this stretch of Battersea High Street is home to three swish drinkeries. Whereas The Castle is a light and airy Young's Bar and Le Quecumbar all elegant furnishings, the Woodman had a more traditional look until the gastro green came out. The sizeable and fairly modern back room comes as a surprise given the homely exterior and although there's the slight feeling that the gastro magic wand has been waved about the place, there's not a lot to detract from the overall solid pub feel. With Hall & Woodhouse beers on the pump, friendly staff and a generally comfortable feel to the place, we have to say this one ranks up there with its sister pubs The Ship and Shovell and St. Stephen's Tavern. If you like them, try this one.
