From the people who brought you the Balham Bowls Club, here's another arresting makeover. Once upon a time this was indeed a tram shed - you don't get that ceiling height naturally. The bar is a long, long way from the previous Scream bar, and does its best to fill the rather cavernous space in a creative way. It feels not unlike an art installation: a chilly Victorian industrial space, dotted with artfully arranged kitsch - something akin to Tate Modern's turbine hall housing the later sections of the Geffrye Museum. Perhaps remarkably though, we didn't find the décor overbearing, nor did it get in the way of an enjoyable few drinks - all at reasonable prices, three drinks leaving decent change from a tenner (how things change, eh?). There was a live music night on when we were in last, with three bands, two we didn't know, one we did and a fairly broad mix of punters enjoying the music. With great beer, friendly staff who keep their senses of humour under pressure and excellent music, we have to say this is a really great bar. We're already planning to go back.
