Although the name suggests a Dickensian establishment, governed over by a paternalistic mutton-chopped proprietor, the reality is another generic outpost of the Davy's Wine Bar chain. It enjoys a charming enough location - a courtyard just off the British Museum - but there's really not much here to set the pulses racing. Long a favourite of works outings and leaving parties, its outdoor area pulls in the punters in the summer (and perhaps explains why this one can be rather quiet on a winter's night). Safe and steady wine bar fare then, with Spitfire on the pump when we were in last.
