Two Chairmen, Walford
FancyaPint?'s review...
Hidden away in a secluded and exclusive area close to St. James's Park, for many years the Two Chairmen remained the classic, cliché "hidden gem". Inevitably it was finally being "discovered", by local civil servants, tourists and conference attendees. It does, however, still manage to retain some of the old local feel - quite a few of the clientele are regulars and know the barmen (and vice versa) and the interior is a cosy, old-fashioned, wood-panelled affair perfectly in keeping with the area. For beer-lovers, there's a good selection of well-kept beer on the hand pumps and the rest of the drinks menu is what you'd expect for an upmarket area such as this. Obviously early evenings and lunch times can see the place pretty crowded, so get here later or(or ealrier) if you want a seat. There is an upstairs room with a bar (which can be hired), but the bar itself is frequently not open, so you'll often have to negotiate the narrow stairs with your precious pints if it's your round. Like the City, it's rather quiet in these parts at the weekend, so unfortunately the pub isn't open then. But should you find yourself midweek, mid-afternoon in the area, you'll find the Two Chairmen and welcome detour.

Very pleasant old-fashioned pub, with plain wood flooring and traditional furniture. A good selection of well kept real ales, and good service. Pleasant atmosphere, with various groups chatting away.
The only downside was the loud (and tuneless) music, which got increasingly deafening as the evening progressed. Totally out of keeping with every other feature of this fine pub, whose distinguishing characteristic should be as a venue for a "quiet" pint.
