This huge lager palace used to be the BBC television theatre which explains the long open bar running where the stalls once were and the mezzanine to end all mezzanines (where the circle was) hovering rather heavily - and to some minds - just too close overhead. Right at the far end, the loos are dropped down in what would have been the orchestra pit with a TV screen roughly the size of News South Wales above where the stage would have been. Walkabouts are always promoted as home from home for our antipodean chums and rumour has it the neon spaghetti outside forms an outline of their fair countries, but a place this size couldn't survive on just a couple of nationalities - if you want to neck lager, watch sport and shout, this is the place for you, oh citizen of the world. Also, unlike most local bars they also let in rival fans when QPR - a 15 to 20 minutes trot away - is playing. TV screens are everywhere, the long bar is well staffed and service is swift - if limited, with John Smith the only draft alternative to the yellow fizzy stuff. Pub food is available; they claim to be "famous for our handbuilt burgers" but the only remarkable thing we noticed when a neighbouring group ordered them was they were about the size and shape of large walnuts. To be fair the complaints were swiftly dealt with and the plates came back with two large walnuts instead. As well as carrying virtually every sport that is broadcast, the Walkabout promises live music at weekends and various other forms of entertainment. This place has something of a challenging reputation - to be diplomatic about what we have read and heard - but on the basis of four or five hours over a couple of evenings, we don't recommend you believe everything you hear. If you want a beer - or preferably a lager - in Shepherds (and up yours pedants - not even the library gives it an apostrophe) Bush, then you should come to no (particular) harm here.
