Westow House, Crystal Palace
FancyaPint?'s review...
This was one of the first pubs in the area to be reshaped into a bar, so it's not really that much of a surprise that when it changed from Bluebottle to Westow House the bar stylings and attitude were retained. It's a hanger of a building, but somehow retains an air of comfort and cosiness. On receiving our pints of Brew Dog we struggled to decide where to park ourselves: over by the library of books (apparently available to borrow), out back by the pool table, in the middle of the main bar, or on the largest leather sofa known to man. Being in the company of a bookworm, we opted for a library seat. The Brew Dog, which was selected by one of the bar staff and has turned in to their biggest seller, is a fantastic pint. We wound up staying for an unplanned second and promising we'd return for more next time we are in the area. The staff were spot on, both welcoming and attentive. The food looked great, but we were in a hurry; four tapas style dished for a tenner seemed like a bargain to us and the burgers looked very tempting. This was a 6pm pint and we're not sure what would happen in here after 9, but we'll check back and let you know...
