The White Horse & Bower is a small traditional style pub on the easily pub-crawlable Horseferry Road. A generic refit however has left it with beige walls, hotel lobby carpets and brown furniture, giving it a vaguely depressing look. The lighting, too, leaves something to be desired; when they turn down the lights to create ambience, you're subsequently cast in that gloomy half-light only two dozen low wattage light-bulbs can produce. Still, its perfectly OK here - service is sharp and the beer is happily up to standard. And things have improved here since the landlady introduced live music nights, ranging from tribute bands to jazz and rock, as well as DJ nights. Let's hope things continue to get better. We'll be back to see how they go.

Head past Channel 4's offices and carry on, the pub will be on your left hand side. From Westminster, come out of the station and walk past the Houses of Parliament, keeping them on your left.
