Despite the bright colours of its exterior and grand heraldry of its name, this is another rather depressing Wetherspoon pub. There's always going to be a place for pubs catering for punters drinking on a budget but unless you're down to your last few pennies (perhaps due to the bookie two doors down) we suggest trying some of the others in the area. This one offers a drinking experience rather like that of an airport lounge bar when all the flights are delayed. Which may explain why the patrons feel the need to escape with their drinks to the pavement outside and the benches across the road.

Back in the 1990's this was a great local with a great beer selection. It had great Edwardian decorations too. At the turn of the present century, some genius decided to "renovate" this place. The result: soulless banality. There should be a law against pub desecration.
