Wibbley Wobbley, Rotherhithe
FancyaPint?'s review...
The Wibbley Wobbley is a converted barge floating in Greenland Dock, surrounded by modern flats on every side, with a novelty factor that definitely adds to the atmosphere. It's simply laid out, with red velvet bench seating around the edge and understandably low ceilings, wallpapered with old nautical maps. Service is pretty good and the sleepy ship's cat amenable. The menu offers traditional fare (spotted dick, ahoy) but the drink is unremarkable - its difficult to keep real ale without a cellar. Our visit found a pleasantly wide range of people - a couple of blokes watching the footy on a portable TV, young local couples and even some sort of Polish yachting club, who'd rented the upstairs restaurant (presumably to talk about Polish yachting). If you're nearby, certainly give this place a go; at least it's more original than another dockside All Bar One. After the eccentric former owner drowned on the way home in 2005, it's good to see the independent nature of this unique pub hasn't been - for want of a better expression - watered down.
