The "Bird in Hand" for as long as we can remember, recently this establishment was temporarily closed under something of a cloud. The reason for this was that in May 2008, the pub was the scene of an astonishing gang fight which took all locals (to say nothing of any drinkers present at the time) by great surprise, and which was front-page news in the local press for several weeks: one side were said even to have tooled themselves up with knives from the pub kitchen. Thankfully, convictions were secured and the pub has been reborn as the "Widmore", which is the name of that part of Bromley where it is located. It's not really changed much, to be honest. It still has a rather pleasant garden with a childrens' play area, and the beer still ain't up to much. The emphasis is - by the barman's own admission - even more on food nowadays, and the menu did look tempting, if on the pricey side (although there is a separate dining area, the place doesn't feel too "gastro"). Harvey's Sussex - which seems to be doing the rounds in Bromley at the moment - was off, and John Smiths was the only other choice of bitter at an expensive three pounds. The pub decor has a burgundy tinge which we suspect will add some perceived warmth in the colder months. All in all, the Widmore is nothing special, but if you do go, make sure you take a look at "The Old Cottage", a house opposite the pub which dates back to 1599.

Now closed.
Piy, but when a pub has a reputation that bad, there's not a lot you can do about it.

About the same as before, not very popular, and the only time it gets really busy is when the local singles group organise a Sunday night bash and you get about 30 or 40 people there. The Harveys is the only real ale there. The menu is very expensive, and the place does not seem very popular with the locals. Seperate ding area, clean toilets, and very nice garden.

I have heard that the place is about to close
