Ye Olde Watling, St. Paul's
FancyaPint?'s review...
Ye Olde Watling is always stuffed to the gunnels immediately after working hours. Occupying a corner plot at the junction of ancient Watling Street and Bow Lane the place was rebuilt after the blitz. The greying wood floor and very decent pint of Guinness make it reminiscent of one of those fake Irish pubs, but it's a rung above that. Very friendly, with a boisterous mixed crowd of tourists, office workers and tradesmen, it's always a lively one. The stairs to the loos are perilously steep - be extra careful. Not everyone's cup of tea then (you'll never get a seat for a start - well at least not until it's pretty late - let alone eat or drink without spillage) but if you do go, go prepared to sing and make merry. Nowadays it's a Nicholson's, but still a rather busy one.

Tried this pub now on three ocassions. The first two times just for drinks, the last for a meal. Very nice bar staff who took time to discuss wine with me before choosing. The food was excellent and I will return. Rather small pub, but well worth a visit just to see the traditonal look and get a feel of the place. Great atmosphere!
