Oakhouse, Maldon
FancyaPint?'s review...
The Oakhouse is a modern continental style cafe bar on Maldon High Street. There's plenty of choice around here and with only an afternoon in the area it wasn't the kind of place we would usually consider. However, as everywhere else nearby had stopped serving food at 3pm (or earlier) we decided to chance a visit. Inside, it's quite pleasant, in an anonymous All bar one style, improved somewhat by the original looking heavy wooden beams. An upstairs area offers a more bar like environment which comes into it's own for the evenings. Table service is offered (until 5pm) and everyone who worked here seemed friendly and efficient. Not much to choose from on tap (no ale and standard lager) but the Sunday roast we tried was excellent. Sunday afternoon saw a steady stream of people in their 20s and 30s visiting, but we spied signed prohibiting certain items of sportswear on certain evenings. It wasn't the only pub to do this, so we imagine there is some wider Maldon-related issue.

I would like to update on the comments above and confirm that the range has increased to a LOCAL ALE alongside a comprehensive range of both standard and premium lagers. A wine menu to compliment all tastes, a mouth watering menu, relaxed atmosphere and friendly service all contribute to make this the leading place to go for meeting, eating and relaxing.
