Visiting a bar in the middle of a food court in an inner-city shopping centre sounded as welcome as having a leg sawn off with a blunt spoon. How wrong we were. While the location isn't the most spectacular, we were won over by the friendly service and choice of three well-kept ales (plus a cider). As the name suggests it is rather compact and you're most likely to be propping up the bar unless you prefer to use the general food court seating nearby, but for us it punched above its weight. There is also a selection of more than 150 bottled ciders, lagers and ales to drink in or take away, mainly from small, independent brewers. They only have a tiny fridge but are happy to squeeze a couple of bottles in for your next round when possible. It's worth noting that the opening hours are restricted by when the shopping centre is open so pretend you have a doctor's appointment and visit in the afternoon.
