Well House Inn, Mugswell
FancyaPint?'s review...
The Well in the name of this pub is mentioned in the Doomsday Book and the pub itself is certainly old but can't quite boast this. However, step into its welcoming bar area and you'll find a low-ceiling pub that oozes the sort of charm that other pubs would give their right arm for. Plenty of odds and ends hanging all over the place, two huge open fires and loads of old pump clips to tell you all about their patronage of the real stuff. We found 4 ales on when we visited, two mainsteam (Pride and Adnams) and two from a couple of local microbreweries including the fantastic Surrey Hills Brewery (Shere Drop). We were here to eat and were happy to see the tables filling up despite the pub's stubborness to go gastro! Hurrah, we say. We like our food simple and tasty at Fancyapint and the steak and onion pie was just that. There's plenty of other things on here during the week including a quiz night and live music. We just wish it was a little more accessible for us Londonites! Oh well, it's a far cry from the Bass-tied tavern that it was 10 years ago. A great pub to head out to if your in this neck of the woods, and even better if the sun's out.
