You don't get much better than this traditional old pub. Excellent choices of real ales, good food, real pub atmosphere. In fact, it's like going back in time. Great to see such a wide range of ages in there enjoying a pub that probably hasn't changed much since the 1950's I would think. Super live jazz on Sunday afternoons, other styles of live music at other times. Interesting viewing point in the bar where you can see down into the deep cellar via a shaft that probably was how they used to get the beer in in years gone by. This is one of those pubs that are a bit rare today, particularly so near to a large city, where everyone was happy, friendly and polite around a busy bar. The Nottingham tram runs close by. Quite near to the old Shipstones Gold Star Brewery building, tucked away down a little street. Certainly worth going, even if you don't think you like live jazz, on a Sunday afternoon. Probably nothing like it in Nottingham.
