The Hotel Penwig is hard to miss, effectively being the the first pub you come to as you climb the hill the from the harbour at New Quay. It's an attractive hotel decorated in the pastel seaside colours everyone seemed to paint their bathrooms in a few years ago and it's a style that works well here - there's a light and airy feel to the place, which suits the mood. Drinkers are reasonably well catered for, there are three Cask Marque ales on the hand pumps, plenty of bottled stuff including Welsh cider and there's a decent enough wine list. Food is modern pub, but it's not served all day, so check on the serving times if you're planning to eat here. The service was friendly (as were the locals) and the atmosphere relaxed and easy-going on our off-season visit, but it's easy to imagine it getting rather more hectic on a sunny, summer's day.
