A most unusual pub as it is actually an old converted grain barge, moored on the river bank near Newark Castle. A number of real ales, the Lincoln Green Brewery was prominent with Hood Bitter and others. Friendly and unusual environment, the bar is downstairs in the body of the barge and there is an area upstairs where you can see across the river, the castle, etc. Well worth a visit for real ale in a unique setting. Parking nearby (pay and display) and only a few minutes walk from the railway station. The food looked good, wholesome pub food, nothing too fancy but well presented and reasonably priced. The young bar staff were friendly and knew about the history of the vessel and knew the beers well. Mine was an afternoon visit and was comfortably busy. A pleasant place to go.
