Every city has its 'must see' pubs and the Crown Posada is one of Newcastle's. Catch it on a busy night though, and it's fair to say you might not 'see' that much, given that this is a long, narrow pub that quickly fills up. Such popularity is reflected in its design, with cushioned walls to aid the relaxation of those who'll be sending time leaning at the side. So, if you can manage it, try and catch this one at a slightly quieter time: we last visited on a wet Monday night, where the apt choice of music played on the pub's record player (a Smiths LP) only added to the experience. Grade II listed - note the stained glass windows and crown candelabra - this one's also justifiably well regarded in real ale circles. But this one's a lot more than just a building serving beer: get in early, get a seat and watch a city relax in front of you.
