This pub's list of CAMRA awards in recent years (10 in a row for East and Mid-Surrey) says everything that you need to know about its ales. The quality and choice is always superb. Two regulars are Surrey Hills' Ranmore Ale and Harveys Best. On our last visit they were serving an ale called Excelsior which went down a treat. The pub also has a good choice of proper ciders for apple afficionados. The guest beers and ciders change every couple of days so there's not much use listing them here. Luckily, the pub's web site is updated on a weekly basis to show its current wares, tasting notes and much more. Set aside in a smallish room, the pub's food consists of sturdy pub fayre at reasonable prices. In the rest of the pub, the beamed low ceilings, cosy seating and flagstone floors (and a cavernous fireplace with a wood-burning stove) would make this place a 5-pinter alone but add to this a modest games room with pool-table and one fruity, and a proper grassy garden with plenty of seating (& swings for kids), a boules court and a heated patio and, well, things really don't get any better. One minor problem, someone's going to have to drive unless you're happy to pay a reasonable cab fare (about 10 from Gatwick). All in all though, a delightful place.

How to find the The Surrey Oaks pub

From Dorking, follow signs to Newdigate. Turn onto Parkgate Road and the pub is opposite the Ali Raj Indian restaurant. Not near any train lines. Several buses run here from Guildford (22 and 21) and these both stop at Dorking Mainline.
