Shipman's, Northampton
FancyaPint?'s review...
Shipman's is one of the closest pubs to the city centre that isn't a Wetherpoon or other easily recognisable countrywide chain. Long and thin in size, it appears to stuck to a rough and a ready mode of operation which has probably seen it good since the 1970's. The decor is basic and stripped out (although obviously not in a gastropub mould) although a patriotic Union Jack flag arrangement in the window was, if nothing else, interesting. We can't vouch for what the evenings are like, but we hope they're a little less sanguine than when we visited on a Saturday afternoon which consisted of a few regulars at the bar. Harmless enough, we suppose.
