Norwich is certainly not short of pubs catering to beer aficionados, but this self-styled free mouse'' is possibly the holy grail, or is that gr(ale). There are up to 30 ales available at any one time, with several of the Fat Cat's own brews alongside an ever changing selection. Add a plethora of bottled beers, continental lagers and fruit beers on tap (such as Kriek and Timmermans Peche), ciders and fruit wines, and decision making becomes almost impossible. If you only have time to sample one or two pints, then a takeout is also possible. Just don't arrive expecting gastropub fare -- the grub consists of little more than rolls at a retro 60 pence. The main bar has a simple, traditional feel, with a brighter side room that's a bit more spacious and airy at busy times. There are also a few tables out the front. Simply, this is well worth heading out of the city centre for.
