An authentic and well-run boozer that balances an ale serving lineage dating back to 1811, with a bustling modern vibe and welcoming atmosphere. At the taps are a wide range of well kept tipples, including distinctive tastes such as the powerfully brewed Dreadnought and the refined Flintknappers brewed along with three other regulars at the Chalk Hill Brewery next door. Don't fret though if beardy ales leave you choking for water, as a good range of supporting lagers and a surprisingly expansive wine list provide plenty of alternatives. The décor is earthy traditional spread over a good sized interior, with plenty of seating in various slightly separate areas allowing opportunities for friendly chat. However, this isn't solely old man territory, as the Coach has a number of lively modern touches. Besides a tasty, modern menu, that includes everything from burgers to truly giant potato wedges and chilli dishes, a number of sports teams play under the pubs banner, something that is indicative of the Coach's bustling, sociable environment that attracts a clientele of all ages and types. There are pubs in Norwich with wider ale choices and even better décor, but few match the fun and quality of the Coach and Horses.
