This used to be just a sleepy country boozer on a busy crossroads in the maze of roads between Dorking and Gatwick Airport. Recently, it shut down and reopened with a swanky website. It also lost its old sign depicting the eponymous fox panting for a cooling spring in the heat of the chase. Its replacement is the pub's name in black Times New Roman on a cream background - shudder! Need we say more. Ok, that's a little harsh. They still sell some great beers (Hogsback and Surrey Hills among others and there's an enormous garden for when the weather is good, but it's lost that loving feeling and gone gastro. But this transformation appears to be a necessary evil in this world. Where else would pubs make their money? Overall, this one's good for the lunch and evening meals and OK if you're looking for a pint. If it's ales and atmosphere you're after, the Surrey Oaks is only a 5 minute trip around the corner.

A fantastic country pub - not full of moaning locals like the rest around the area going on and on about real ales. This pub range of food and drink is superb. Ales by Dark Star, Pilgrim & Dorking brewery were being served the day I visited and they even had mulled wine and hot toddy's avialable. The food is priced well considering its all freash and the menu has a good choice of food options, I had the fish and chips and my wife had the sausages - and very good they both were.
There is a large childrens play area in the back garden and on speaking to the member of staff on duty I belive they are a family friendly pub and have a seperate childrens menu. It was a refreshing change to walk into a clean and friendly pub offering a good range of food and drink at reasonable prices. I will definately be back.
