The third-largest town on the Isle of Man (although home to the island's only cathedral, so arguably a city) as well as its main fishing port, Peel is noticeably one of the less affluent areas - in contrast, for example, to Ramsey, the second town. However, it is also one of the fastest-growing population centres on the island. There are a number of pubs in the centre of Peel, some being - frankly - rather unappealing-looking, and we rejected several options before plumping for the Marine Hotel. The fact that it is well-known for food was a major factor in this decision. Nestled on the promenade, which in fact stands on reclaimed land, the pub is dominated by a large seating area where food is served, with the public bar to the front. Beer-wise, Okells is of course served, but only one variety (their standard bitter) was available on our visit. Otherwise, there is usually a guest ale from elsewhere in the Isle of Man/ Northwest England. Not a brilliant pub for beer selection or ambience - but a good bet if you're peckish in Peel.
