From what we saw of Penkridge as we burst up the M6 in search of the Lake District, the Littleton Arms was its most upmarket pub. We arrived a little late for food but they were happy to put something together for us which was excellent. The three beers on the pumps were well kept and they appeared to have a healthy clutch of locals, despite the place having the air of a gastropub-hotel. There's seating outside if the weather's good and the pub seems to have a few theme nights in the calendar (Mexican was next on the list). As we said, this was a fleeting visit to Penkridge so we didn't see much of it. Out of the village's three pubs, this one was certainly a safe bet and perfect for our motorway-break requirements.
