The Bottle House Inn is one of two old pubs in this part of Kent that everyone seems to know. It's a lovely old place, the building goes all the way back to 1492, but, after a recent refurbishment, it's thoroughly 21st century - with an olde-worlde twist. The Bottle House's rambling interior has been opened up (it used to get crowded very quickly) and it now offers much more spacious and comfortable accommodation for drinkers and diners alike, proving you can modernise without destroying character. The beer is excellent, local ales on the hand pumps with a good wine list as an alternative for non-ale fans. And the food is pretty good too - modern British, with Sunday roasts, of course. It's all of pretty good quality, but this quality does come at a price - expect to pay West End prices for your food and wine. Nevertheless, the Bottle House is an outstanding place, a well-run pub, with good drink, food and service and it's popular too - you'll need to book if you want to eat here at the weekend. There are many fine attractions in this part of Kent, famous places such as Penshurst Place, Chartwell, Groombridge Place and Chartwell and to this list you should add the Bottle House Inn - it's well worth a visit.
