The Royal Hotel is a traditional-looking, but modern, place in the centre of Portree and at one end of the block-long building sits Macnabs Inn - a pub-cum-hotel bar, named after McNab's Inn (where Bonnie Prince Charlie and Flora Macdonald parted company), which once stood on this site. The ales OK, it's brewed by the Isle of Skye brewery and there's even one brewed especially for the hotel - Macnab's, although our preference is for Black Cuillin. Apart from the ales and historical connections, there's not a lot to say about Macnabs - it's a pretty ordinary place, it's clean, it's decent and the service is OK - it just lacks a little atmosphere, but it's a handy enough spot for refreshment after a day's walking.
