In an area of natural beauty, it's sadly commonplace to find pubs content to assume that no matter how badly they run their business, new tourists will come back next year and so the cycle continues. The Falgate Inn definitely doesn't fit into this category. Located about half a mile from the main stop at Potter Heigham on the Norfolk Broads, you need to make a special effort to walk here, and there are a pub and bar doing their best to divert you along the way. The pub's not particularly old or attractive but we were given a very warm welcome by the barmaid and the landlady's a good chatty sort too. The beers were well kept (Woodforde's Wherry and Green King IPA on our last visit) and the food comes in enormous, tasty portions (try the ribs!). As well as this, the pub's got a good set-up for darts fans, a pool table in the back room, sport on the telly, a quiz machine and a small sun spot out the back for al fresco supping. The pub also doubles as a B&B with good breakfasts being served in the morning (and you don't need to spend the night if you want to just turn up for brekkie). Overall, this is a welcome relief from the tourist traps that seem rife here. Friendly, good value and we'd go back again and again.
