Owd Betts is a charming looking late 18th century building with impressive views over the Ashworth Moor reservoir. Deriving its name from a long-standing owner, although it sits upon a windswept moor, it is really pretty close to Rochdale and does get a good deal of passing trade. The interior is 'traditional country', with an open fire and three separate rooms, filled with plenty of wooden beams and old knickknacks. Sadly, the ale choice was disappointing and badly kept to boot, so we opted for some lacklustre keg beer instead. Like many country pubs, the emphasis is towards food now and prices hover around the 8-10 mark. Punters were a mix of walkers and eaters on our visit, but we can see it filling quickly on Sunday with families. Rochdale doesn't have much choice, so it is worth popping in if you're passing.
