OK so this is not a pub that you go into expecting anything other than a beer and if you're up for it - a really good time.
It would be easy to be sniffy about the Newcastle Packet - it doesn't have any airs and graces, no great product range, no real ale, no fancy decor, the toilets are a bit on the crap side and they don't do food beyond salt and vinegar and cheese and onion. But what this pub does have in abundance is character, history (just look at the photo's of the trawler-men on the walls) and a huge dose of personality. You cannot come in here expecting it to be Gastro - so don't visit if you are in any way sensitive.
Do come in here with a big gang on their hols at the beach looking for a good time - just don't expect cocktails.
We liked it, but then we like authentic, locals boozers, even if it doesn't do too much in the way of ale. That said - sort the toilets out please.
