If you're a country pub, relying on trade from your local village isn't enough anymore, unless you run it as a hobby. Some seem to go the pseudo gastro route and refurbish themselves in an inappropriately contemporary (or bland) style. The Chandler's Arms chose the path less trodden and focussed on those old pub stalwarts - beer and service. So inside is a cosy, traditional pub with friendly locas and plenty of banter. A nice outside area is fine for warmer days, but it's easy to ensconce yourself in here for dark winter evenings. We noted four ales on tap (there may have been more), all from smaller independent breweries. Food, too, is very reasonably priced, but isn't the best we've ever had. If it hadn't been for the food and the habit of people to block the tiny space between the bar and the front door this would be a contender for a five pint pub. As it is, perfectly respectable four pint rating will have to suffice.
