Dore village maybe where the posh people in Sheffield live and where the rest aspire to live, but Devonshire Arms is far from snooty. In fact it's a pretty down-to-earth sort of boozer. It does offer rather a lot - six hand pumps providing a wide range of well known and esoteric beers, lots of different seating areas to drink and eat in, a large beer garden, a conservatory, plenty of food and, pretty uniquely, a three-quarter size snooker table. But that's as good as it gets - it has to be said that the beer was a disappointing - insipid and flavourless - and it was embarrassing interrupting the bar staff's conversation when trying to order drinks (we don't like to be rude). The locals don't help the atmosphere much either, noisy groups of youngsters or stares from older couples - they must have thought we were interlopers from Totley. A bit of a let down then, the homely exterior seemed to promise much more.
