Kelham Island Tavern, Sheffield
FancyaPint?'s review...
If you're not a fully paid-up CAMRA member or a local beer enthusiast, chances are you won't have heard of the Kelham Island Tavern, which is a pity as it's one of the top beer pubs in the country. With it's dazzling array of ever-changing, well-kept beers, ales porters and ciders on the hand pumps and an even larger selection of bottled beers and continentals on tap, there's enough here to keep even the most serious beer connoisseur occupied for a long time. But the Kelham Island Tavern's not just for beardy, T-shirt wearing, note-taking beer-bores, this is a jolly, friendly, welcoming pub, with plenty to offer ordinary folk who simply enjoy good beer and good company. Despite the industrial location (something we quite like here at FAP) there's an award winning, beer garden, there's also a weekly quiz (with buffet) and regular live music. The bar staff are knowledgeable, affable and efficient and it's handy the pub's open later at the weekend, it gives you time to sample more. Small wonder, then, it's won so many awards in the last few years. Even without the cornucopia of beer the Kelham Island Tavern would still be a worthwhile place to visit, but if beer's your thing, it's pretty damn near Nirvana.
