Any beer aficionado familiar with these parts will know the Red Deer - it's been on the real-ale-drinkers' map for as long as we can remember. It's a lot less dingy than it used to be - actually a bit over-bright for us - but the decades-long tradition of quality ales continues today. The line-up includes a familiar range of beers - Broadside, Black Sheep, Landlord, Bombardier, to name but a few - and they're all well kept. Cask Marque quality, no less. But it's not just the beer that makes the Red Deer a pleasant experience, there's always something going on here, from live music to poetry, quizzes to readings - it's an amiable, social centre for a broad group of people, here to enjoy fine ales and fine conversation. Whilst we heartily embrace change here at Fancyapint?, it is reassuring to know that in our rapidly-changing society there are some constants and it's even nicer when included in this group are pubs such as the Red Deer.
