The Ship Inn, Sheffield
The Ship is an impressive old pub with a magnificent (listed) tiled facade, that sits somewhat forlornly by a dual carriageway on the way into Sheffield city centre. It's a Tudorbethan time capsule of the period - the tile work advertising the long-defunct Tomlinson's Anchor Beer, a rather nice tiled frieze over the main door and an enticingly-named "dram shop". Inside it's a friendly, welcoming pub, there's only one beer on the hand pumps - Hardy and Hanson's (a Greene King brand) and the other beers on tap are pretty unremarkable - but that doesn't seem to be an issue for anyone here. It's a mostly older, local clientele but, there's a lively buzz and a jolly atmosphere and, with its decent jukebox and pool table, the Ship offers a good venue for a few pints and chin-wag with friends and locals alike.
