Well, when we reviewed this place as Mulberry we commented it seemed rarely busy. So it was with little surprise to discover that this old Victorian pub has now become part of the Grand Union chain. The Stamford Brook end of Goldhawk Road might not be as 'gritty' the Shepherds Bush bit, but it's still not the sort of place you'd expect a bar like the Grand Union, which sits opposite a row of shuttered shops, a used car lot and one of those budget chicken takeaways which have an American state in their name. But here it is, with the now ubiquitous black and serious exterior looming over it's surroundings. A range of premium beers and a good wine list is complimented by a range of cocktails; ale fans don't fare too well, though. Meanwhile, the peckish amongst us can opt for one of their large range of burgers. While the Mulbery's interior was all light and airy - aspirational gastro, circa 2003 - it has now become a dark and luxurious - framed portraits, Chinese fans, standard lamps and a heavily stained wooden floor give the impression of an updated Edwardian drawing room. Its no surprise why the Grand union people chose this site - the 2.30am late licence allows them plenty of scope to make this a destination venue, with DJs playing the usual range of crowd friendly tunes. The Grand Union chain is not to everyone's taste, but they've done a good job here, so get a commensurate three pint rating.
