Wareside, with its tiny population is lucky enough to boast not one but two pubs to choose from. However, while the Chequers over the road is a more local, traditional affair, the White Horse is somewhat more mainstream. A Greene King pub, it is an attractive and old building, with two bars and a lovely big fireplace. There is, understandably a faint feeling of corporateness to the place but the parochial nature of the place is what gives the place the one pint rating we've reluctantly had to give it. One bar - predominantly the eating area - was filled with people hovering around and it felt rather like a private party. The other bar was worse, with a baby being changed on the pool table. Nice that people feel relaxed in their local, but this was to the detriment of the pub. Lovely views form the beer garden notwithstanding, as soon as the Chequers opened for the evening shift we couldn't wait to get away.

How to find the White Horse pub

Wareside is a couple of miles north east of Ware, on the B1004 and is a small enough village to be able to find the pub easily enough.
