The only reason we have ever been to the George is that it has accommodation, which by Whitby standards, is reasonably cheap. If you are staying here the rooms are adequate, clean, with plenty of hot water and with an OK breakfast. It's also pretty central, although parking is a nightmare; you have to park in one of the large town centre car parks. The pub part of the hotel is typically town centre Britain, nothing flash, slightly run down with a deep fried food menu and sterilised beer menu, though you can sample the chewy Tetley Imperial here. There is a weird disco bit downstairs at the back (worryingly, where some six hours later you have your breakfast!) that stays open until the wee hours. Whitby is Whitby though, not Monte Carlo and one thing you can at least find at the George are true Whitby prices. It's a happy place, if a little odd.

How to find the George Hotel pub

You need to head to the West Shore of Whitby and as the main road runs down towards the quayside (follow the signs for the station) you pass the George on your left. It's at the intersection of the main road and the main pedestrian street and has a big painted name on the side of the building. You can park on the station (closest) or on one of the large town centre car parks behind the Coop.
