The Bear Inn, Wincanton
14 Aug 2012
This is my local and is a wonderful old (1720) coaching inn in the historic market town of Wincanton. There is a real fire and mulled wine in the winter, there are family fun days, quiz nights, karaoke nights, and a very warm welcome always. Nothing is too much trouble. There is excellent home cooking with fresh ingredients and the Sunday roasts are to die for as well as the steak special on Fridays. There is accommodation to be had too. 8 rooms I think. Free wi-fi, a function room for hire. There are very well-kept real ales. Why not turn off the A303 halfway to Devon/Cornwall and come for lunch! It's well worth it. Dog-friendly too.
