The Bacchus

RIP: The Bacchus

picture ofThe Bacchus

Our final review:
"The Bacchus is an old pub that has survived its glory days somewhat better than many of its surrounding contemporaries. Much of the original dark wood panelling has survived and there are bits of Victorian tilework here and there so you get a pretty good idea what it might have been like then. Nowadays, it’s a bit of hotchpotch, an accumulation of stuff added over the years - brown tiles in the bogs, a Bacchus logoed carpet and, our favourite, a Post Office clock over the bar, amongst other things. There’s no hand-pumped beer here, but we guess that’s hardly a preoccupation of the clientele, the giant projector screen and the karaoke competition being the major draws. The service is friendly too and, despite it looking like it needs a bit of maintenance, it’s the one where we’d prefer to drink in these parts. "

So, what’s become of it?

Sadly, another pub lost to restaurant creep. We’ll have a look at some point, but we’re pretty sure it’s no longer a haven for drinking.

Do you know more?
