Reviewers’ awards
The Victoria, 10a Strathearn Place W2 - overall winner:
Simply a beautiful pub
The Victoria has a wonderful Victorian interior, befitting its handsome exterior and, coupled with Fuller's excellent drink and good, honest pub food, offers one of the best pub-going experiences in London. Add friendly and knowledgeable staff, a mixed and affable clientele, quizzes and the like and you've got a winner. Well done all round, we say.
The Nightingale, 51 Nightingale Lane, Wanstead
The sort of traditional pub we’d all like as our local
It might take visitors to London a while to get to the Nightingale, but this one’s well worth the trip out to the eastern edge of the North Circular. It’s a classic, homely pub with excellent food and drink, friendly service and the sort of atmosphere that’s hard to find in the middle of town.
Ye Olde Mitre, 1 Ely Court EC1N
A little piece of history
A quintessential historic pub that gets everything just right. This pub didn't need TVs, jukeboxes and fruit machines in 1546 and it still doesn't. All it takes is good beer, good food and good conversation - we think there's a lesson in there somewhere. Here's to the next five hundred years.
Radnor Arms, 247 Warwick Road, W1
Back from the brink
In a year that’s seen far too many of London’s traditional pubs close, it’s great to be able to celebrate a pub that’s survived the wrecker’s ball. A true local in an area where you wouldn’t necessary expect one, the quality beers, cheery regulars - and a whole menagerie – add up to one of the most pleasant pub-going experiences in London.
Lincoln Lounge, 52 York Way, N1
Laid back
Plenty of pubs aim to be stylish and laid back, though few manage it as apparently effortlessly as the Lincoln Lounge. A true independent in an area that’s corporately re-branding itself, this venue has to be one of the friendliest we’ve come across all year and richly deserves its award.
Reviewers’ award - most improved pub:
The Camel, 277 Globe Road E2
A makeover, with pies?
Not so long ago the Camel was a careworn, resolutely locals' place, and not a particularly friendly one at that - but now things have changed. The new owners have taken what was good about the old, mostly the original building, and with the deft addition of a few new ingredients - namely good beer, wine and unique pies - have transformed this into a no-smoking pub that's worth giving up to visit.
Reviewers’ award - best newcomer:
The Selkirk, 60 Selkirk Road SW17
From nowhere appears one of the best pubs south of the river
Deservedly attracting a growing clientele from across the local community, the Selkirk has struck an excellent balance between traditional pub features and a contemporary outlook. Whether you come here to watch the football, for a game of bar billiards or just a natter with your mates this one effortlessly does the job.
Visitors’ awards
King's Arms 25 Roupell Street, SE1 - overall winner:
A favourite of ours and now of our visitors
One of our winners in our inaugural awards a couple of years ago, the King’s Arms has triumphed again and has found its way into the hearts of Fancyapint.com's users and become the first pub to win two awards from us. Located on a wonderfully preserved street, it appears lots of Fancyapint.com users make the effort to visit this one. And then visit it again, and again...
The Windmill, 6-8 Mill Street, W1
Tradition's still popular in the West End
A Visitors’ Award for the Windmill shows that a lot of people are looking for a traditional pub in the centre of town. The Windmill certainly fits the bill - its beers and pies helping to pack this one out at all hours of the day.
The Champion, 12-13 Wells Street, W1
A pub fit for heroes
A Sam Smith’s pub that plays to the strength’s of that brewery: unique beer, competitive prices. Take these qualities, blended with this pub’s central location and a glorious interior and it's not difficult to understand this pub's popularity.
The Counting House, 50 Cornhill EC3
Grandeur in the City
Sporting one of the most magnificent interiors of any London pub and first-rate food and drink, the Counting House has proved extremely popular with Fancyapint.com users. Whether you're meeting two or twenty people, this pub always delivers and never fails to impress.
Royal Exchange, 26 Sale Place W2
A diamond in the rough of Paddington
The Royal Exchange appeals to users of Fancyapint.com who hanker after a pub a little different from the branded norm. Plenty of them do, and plenty of them have found their way to this pub. A true boozer, but a friendly one at that - long may it last.
