Opened in 1998, this pub derives its name from the New Cross Turnpike Trust, which was established during the reign of King George III. The aim of the Trust was to build private roads here and in the surrounding areas, which then charged a toll to users - and judging by the number of people present on our visit, they've been relieving punters of their money ever since. The pub is in the Good Beer Guide 2009, but although the selection is decent, this is no more than a slightly above-average 'Spoon pub. The most notable features are a glass roof which lights the bar area in the daytime, and a raised seating area which, with the glass roof, gives an air of a conservatory. There's also a pleasant (heated) beer patio which backs onto the roof.
