picture of Ye White Hart
Ye White Hart one of an increasingly rare species - that of the unrefurbished Young's pub. As such, this grand Victorian pub, with it's imposing circular bar, can still boast torn chesterfields, tables with peeling lacquer and a worn carpet. Perhaps being on the lonely road betwixt Barnes and Mortlake has meant that it's a low priority for Wells and Youngs, despite potential as a flagship pub and that the wonderful raised view of the Thames makes it a very popular haunt on Boat Race day. The decor maybe unreconstructed but the prices certainly aren't; expect to pay around £10 for main meals and £5 for deserts, too much money considering there are a number of nice restaurants and gastropubs close by. The service was efficient enough, but some more training wouldn't go amiss, as we would expect them to know what Bombardier was without prompting. Overall, if you come on a sunny afternoon, grab a beer and sit looking at the Thames, you'll have a lovely time here, but as a pub experience, this place wavers between a two and a three pint rating.
