picture of Elephant and CastleA welcome refuge in the quiet back streets two minutes from High Street Kensington, the Elephant and Castle's multi-award winning flower-festooned facade almost hides this small and homely pub. Though taken over by Nicholson's, it's not the normal routine for their pubs. The beer and service are good and the atmosphere is usually pretty lively (though a bit "OK yah" at times). The food is very good, and not Nicholson's usual menu, with daily menu choices and specials, and not too expensive either. It used to be that whenever there's a hint of sunshine the locals deserted the bar for the tiny front garden, spilling out onto the street, but there must have been complaints from the neighbours, as the signs make it clear that drinking on the pavements isn't allowed. Still, it's got a lot going for it and its worth a look in.
