Formerly as dependable as Jeeves in terms of Kilburn drinking, the North London Tavern reopened a while ago under new management, and started calling itself a 'pub and dining room'. The Irish flavour has gone, and been replaced by a much more cosmopolitan air. They kept the pub's nice original features (ceiling, pillars, stained glass canopy) but replaced the furniture with new tables and lots of comfy chairs. The atmosphere has changed too, with jazz and Nancy Sinatra hits playing whilst you gaze at the gastro menu (typically £5 for snacks, £10 for mains) and sup your choice of ales or Belgian draught beer. They have an extensive wine list, too. It is an agreeable place for a drink, clearly aiming to draw in younger locals who didn't fancy its previous incarnation, but the crowd does tend to be fairly mixed. It's nothing like the auld tavern, but give it a go as it's still one of the better places to meet up the area. And they do Sunday night film nights for a fiver - worth a look.
