Replacing the woeful Fairway & Firkin that was previously on this site, the Railway offers a much improved and fully refurbished approach. It's one of those places that borders between being a bar and a pub, having an extensive wine list, piped music and modern furnishings. If it's beer you're after, there's a good selection including Hoegaarden, Leffe, Maredsous and Staropramen on tap, as well as Fuller's London Pride and Adnams on the hand pumps. The food is decent and the wine list reasonable, although perhaps a little pricey for an out of the centre establishment. The Railway is a pub Blackheath has been crying out for for a good while. And, as might be expected around here, it's pretty popular towards the weekend (when it opens late) and has bouncers on the door in order to cope. Bringing with it the consequent heavy-handed eviction tactics at chucking out time - a little more politeness and respect would be appreciated.
