picture of Railway
With its lofty, stripped-out interior and prominent use of glass, the Railway's well placed to capture visitors en route to Kew Gardens - especially as it's actually in the station. It's actually not a bad place to stop for a breather either. With three Cask Marque ales on the hand pumps - usually Pride, Adnam's, Bombardier - and plenty of other choices on tap, refreshment usually not a problem. There's cheapish food too (especially for the these parts) including Sunday roasts. We must say, however, the large tables and L-shaped design result in a rather more cramped pub than you'd expect from the exterior and as a result, it doesn't always feel too relaxing. And summer weekends can see it fill up pretty quickly, even with the outdoor space. As station pub's go, it's easily one of the better ones, but then as stations go Kew station (and the surrounding area) is considerably more attractive than, say, King's Cross - despite the billions that's already been spent. A reasonable and handy pub for thirsty botanists.
