Bedford Tavern, Finsbury Park  

The Bedford is the sort of pub one could easily pass by on the street without noticing, and once you're inside you may wish you'd done just that. The bitter was off, the pool table vociferously guarded by a large dog, and the only other people in the bar were a family with a small child running loose and an old man asleep in one corner. As for the décor... well, let's just say you're left in no doubt that the owners of the bar are a) Irish and b) Arsenal supporters. For the sake of fairness, this is probably a jolly local to some, as indicated by the spooky memorial chair to a deceased drinker, and there's a piano for singsongs, if you're feeling foolhardy (and can get past the Alsatian). The current landlords have apparently only been in situ for a couple of weeks, explaining the lack of beer, so there may be hope for the Bedford yet. Don't hold your breath, though.
