The Latin Corner (ex The Copenhagen), Holloway  

We never managed to brave a drink in the impressive looking but rough Copenhagen and it's with some regret that we had to wait for it's conversion into a Latin Bar to give it a chance. We say regret, as this is a surprisingly well preserved Art Deco pub and also because Latin bars housed in old pubs tend to have a limited lifespan. The original brass bannisters, the lamp shades and the sweeping bar all exude proper quality, but the real surprise were the two large stained glass panels inlaid into the ceiling, one in each of the bay windows. The one thing the Latin Corner doesn't seem to be worrying about is attracting the local population, evidenced by a waitress who immediately began to speak in Spanish when we entered, asking us whether we wanted to eat or drink. Indeed, it seems the humble drinker is relegated to the bar (which is no bad place to be) and alongside the generic lagers were a few bottled beers from Columbia. It was very quiet for Saturday at 7pm, but the imposition of loud, crap, Europop indicated they were expecting (hoping?) it was going to pick up later. Overall, if you fancy some good looking Columbian food this might be a worthwhile place to visit, but if you hanker after a simple drink, you might find elsewhere a better bet.
